Louisa Dixon (nee Osborn)

Joseph Joseph(s) married Mary Kelly in 1910 in St Mark's Church, Drummoyne (a marriage declaration is also available).

Joseph's mother Fanny Osborne neglected to record Joseph's father's name on his birth certificate. It is well known in the family that Israel Elias Josephs did not marry Fanny Osborne for religious reasons - Jewish law prevents a Jewish man from marrying out of his faith and thus the children of such a union are not considered to be Jewish. Fanny, however, had a further three children with Israel; Arthur, Leah and Frank and there is no record of their marriage.

Fanny had been brought to Sydney as a baby and indeed, was probably born aboard a ship. Her father was a ship's engineer. She died in 1943 in Nelson Street, Rozelle. Her parents, Nehemiah Osborn and Maria Woodward were married in the Cathedral Church of England and Ireland, Hobart Town, Tasmania in 1854.

They had several children and a photo of Louisa Osborn, Fanny's younger sister was kindly given to me by Glenn McGregor whose wife is a descendent of Louisa. Glenn has also provided much of the information and documentation here about Nehemiah and Maria.

Nehemiah died in 1896 in Park Rd, Drummoyne.

More information will be added here soon...
